Just brought the hay in

Just brought the hay in

We wanted to have some small bales this year with the idea that they would be easier in the winter to feed the cattle and sheep.

The weather looked good for the week so phoned John V on Monday and he cut it that afternoon.  Mike D then stepped in to turn the cut grass twice a day and it dried out and turned to hay by Friday.  John V returned to bale the hay on Friday early afternoon and we had 381 hay bales in the field by 3.30pm.

If you make big bales you leave them in the field for a few days but with small bales you bring them in straight away. Mike D came up trumps again!! He came round with his tractor and trailer and we set to.  Starting at 4.30  with Mike and David picking up the bales and Karen driving the tractor they were all stacked up in the barn in time for the football at 7.30. That's 127 an hour or 2.11 per minute or one every 28 seconds to load on the trailer, drive to the barn and stack!!!  No wonder we fell asleep during the football but then it was an appalling performance by England.

It shows what a great community we have here and such good friends in our farmer neighbours.  It looks like we will have to treat them to a meal at 'Life's a Beach'.
